Swihart Belgians
Welcome to Swihart Belgians!
UPDATED 1-1-11
Welcome to our homepage from Fred, Debi and Brad Swihart!
We are a family owned farm on 70 acres in Grass Lake, Michigan (although our mailing address is Jackson). We bought our first team of Belgian grade horses in 1993 just to have around the farm. We were novices when it came to draft horses, but seeing these horses year after year at our county fair we knew we had to have a team. Our original intent was to purchase a team of gray Percherons, but the seller talked us into the "better" pair of Belgians he had. We know we made the right choice. One year later we bought our first registered mare and the rest is history, we were hooked. We now show across the United States with a 6 horse hitch of mares.
A little something about us....
Fred is retired as a self employed building contractor and Debi has worked as a college professor for 25 years. Our family consists of Erin, her husband Andy, and their son Max who live in Woodland Park, Colorado. Erin is a middle school teacher and Andy works at a gold mine in Cripple Creek, Colorado. They are expecting their second son the last of February 2011. Fred II, lives in Muscatine, Iowa and works as a Reactor Operator at a nuclear power plant near the Quad Cities. Freddy was married in 2010 and his new wife Emily is a landscape architect. Brad lives at home and will graduate from law school in May 2011. He is newly engaged and he and Trisha are planning a September 3, 2011 wedding. They will be living in Bloomington, Indiana while Trisha is attending IU Optometry School.
We usually have between 15 - 20 head in the barn. We are expecting 5 foals for 2011. All but 1 will be out of our own stud "Masters Craig". Look for updates and new photos when they arrive on our Swihart Belgians Facebook page.
We always have horses for sale and welcome visitors....the coffee pot is always on! Just call ahead to make sure we are home!
